Honey of a thousand flowers, from Marimurtra Botanical Garden

Marimurtra honey is one of the most well-known and appreciated products of the Marimurtra Botanical Garden. It is a 100% natural and ecological honey that is obtained through the decantation process in order to remove all the impurities. Therefore, it contains no additives or preservatives.
That is why in 2021 it was awarded the Girona Excel·lent quality seal.

It is made in the 14 hives in the Garden, where more than 400,000 bees live. Our beekeepers regularly visit the bees to check that they are in good condition and to collect the excess honey they generate.
Some of the most traditional tools used by the beekeeper to carry out his work are the smoker, who tames the bees, the spatula, which serves to separate the frames from the hive, or the queen exciter, a grate that keeps the queen bee from passing by to secure the laying of eggs.
The bees that live in these hives fly over the whole Garden collecting pollen from different species from around the world, which is why it is impossible to find out which flowers Marimurtra honey is from. But what can be assured is that it is a unique honey. In fact, the original mission of the Marimurtra bees is to guarantee the pollination of the plants of the more than 4,000 species that live in the Botanical Garden of the Costa Brava. That is, pollinating bees, apart from being honey producers, also play a vital role in conserving the biodiversity of species. That is why we must ensure its survival.
At Marimurtra we are aware of the importance of bees, which is why we carry out crop rotation in the organic garden, the elimination of products and chemical treatments, and the production of local organic products depending on the season. This is a program we call Zero Fitos and we invite you to discover.
