The Marimurtra Botanical Garden received 70,807 visitors in 2021

This result consolidates the trend towards recovering from the effects of the pandemic, although it represents only half of the visitors received in 2019.

The effects of the pandemic continue to be felt in the Marimurtra Botanical Garden, one of the most visited tourist facilities in Blanes and the Costa Brava. 2021 closes with a total of 70,807 visitors, representing 51.82% of those received in 2019.
A closer look at visitor composition provides some interesting facts:

Top origin countries in 2021 2021 % Total 2019 Position 2019 % Contribution of visitors
1 – Catalonia 44’69% 2 17’79%
2 – France 18’65% 1 22’46%
3 – Rest of Spain 9’78% 6 4’96%
4 – Poland 3’80% 9 3’67%
5 – Germany 3’75% 5 6’86%
6 – Holland 2’75% 7 4.69%
7 – Belgium 1’38% 13 1’17%
8 – Russia 0’89% 3 11’45%

Therefore, it is worth noting the significant influx of local users who have visited Marimurtra during 2021, both from the Principality itself and from the nearest areas of France. In all, two out of every three visitors to Marimurtra have come from these two areas of influence over the past year.

Lights and shadows

Visitor data for the past 2021 has a double interpretation depending on whether you look at it from an optimistic or pessimistic perspective. On the one hand, they are better than the industry could expect at the beginning of the year, but on the other hand, they are still far from the ones you would like to take as a reference in 2019.

Moderately optimistic forecasts for 2022

For this year the Carl Faust Foundation has made a forecast of visitors that takes into account a certain recovery of the tourism sector but that will still place the global figures at a certain distance from the collections in 2019. In other words, we can talk about improvement , but not yet recovery.
Finally, it is worth noting that the entries represent between 60% and 70% of the income of the Carl Faust Foundation, owner and manager of the Marimurtra Botanical Garden, which dedicates its efforts to the maintenance of the Botanical Garden and research projects. , conservation and dissemination of science related mainly to the field of botany.
