The House of Faust: a journey to the origin of Marimurtra

The Marimurtra Botanical Garden opens the doors of Carl Faust’s house with guided tours. It is a unique opportunity to delve into the history of the founder and discover the spaces where he lived and made his dream come true: the Marimurtra Botanical Garden.

A Noucentista jewel with history

The House of Faust is a Noucentista work designed in the 1920s by the architect Josep Goday i Casals. It contrasts with the modernist exuberance of the time and stands out for its harmonious sobriety and the sgraffito with marine and floral motifs designed by Francesc Canyelles.

Among the most unique details are the exposed brick balcony with an organic cornice, the artisan wrought iron railings, and curious elements such as the iron by the door to clean shoes or the light holes in the floor that illuminate the basement.

A space that speaks of Faust

Inside, the house preserves intimate spaces that evoke the life and interests of Carl Faust: the living room with cross vaults, the dining room with a fireplace, or his private library.

The sculptural corbels by Carles Collet, representing a botanist and a gardener, symbolize the union between science and technique. In addition, paintings, sculptures and furniture testify to the founder’s artistic and cultural taste.

More than a visit

Entering the House of Faust means immersing oneself in the story of a man who devoted his life to science, art and nature. An experience that brings us closer to the origin of Marimurtra and to the unique legacy that Carl Faust left in the Mediterranean.
