It is a large tree, up to 18 metres high. The leaves are deciduous, oval (egg-shaped), with more than one lobe. Its fruit are brown acorns, which are borne in groups of 2 or 3.
It is more than 8 metres high and 7 metres wide. It was probably planted at the beginnings of the garden in 1930. It is the only specimen of this species in the Iberian Peninsula.
The acorns can be eaten raw or boiled. They are also used to tan leather and to make dyes. Its wood is used to make furniture, due to its colour and hardness.
