Lambert’s cypress

Description

It can live up to 280 years.

It is a tree that can be up to 40 meters tall, with very small, scale-shaped leaves, dark green in color and that smell.

The flowers are also small, and are cone-shaped. They can be male or female.

The female cones produce spherical fruits, like pine cones, but they take a year to mature once they have been fertilized. They are grayish-brown in color.

Marimurtra’s specimens

It is a very large specimen, 14 meters high and 15 meters wide. You will find it in the second garden near the measuring well square.

It already appears in the first inventory of the garden in 1954.

The year of planting is unknown, but due to its height it is believed that it was at the beginning of the garden.

Did you know that…?

Specimens over 1,500 years old have been found in the forests of North America. It is a species from the central coast of California, where there is a Mediterranean climate like ours. Although it is cultivated all over the world, in its region of origin it is in a threatened situation (Vulnerable; VU) due to the degradation of its natural habitat.
