Mountain aloe

Description

Mountain aloe is a robust, strong and resistant plant. Its leaves are large, they can measure up to 1 meter and a half in length.

They have a spike at the top and small spikes on the sides. They are succulent, that is, thick to accumulate water, rigid and glaucous gray in color.

The flowers are small, reddish-orange or yellowish, and rich in nectar. They are born in groups (inflorescence), and all together they can measure up to 80 centimeters.

You will find them in the area of ​​the garden dedicated to the South African desert.

They are very large: one of them measures about 2 meters. They come from the Canary Islands and the Hanbury Botanical Garden, in La Mórtola, on the Italian Riviera.

Did you know that…?

In South Africa it is widely used in medicine and veterinary medicine to purge and control parasites. The leaves were used to scrape leather and its fibers to make cloth. From the ash of the leaves an additive was made to add to the tobacco leaves.
