The Marimurtra Botanical Garden preserves an exceptional plant heritage, made up of more than 2,750 species that have been shaped over more than a century of history. This set of living collections constitutes not only a first-rate scientific and conservation resource, but also a fundamental element for outreach, education, and the cultural experience of visitors. With the aim of ensuring rigorous management and aligning with the most demanding international standards, the Carl Faust Foundation has developed the Marimurtra Living Plant Collection Plan.
This document establishes the criteria, protocols, and priorities for the acquisition, documentation, maintenance, and exhibition of the plants, as well as for the eradication of invasive species and the implementation of plant biosecurity measures. The Plan also defines a transparent and coherent management model, based on traceability and the systematic recording of all accessions, with the aim of facilitating exchange and collaboration with other botanical gardens and scientific institutions.
With this tool, Marimurtra reinforces its vocation as a garden of international reference, in line with the mission of the Carl Faust Foundation: to conserve, manage, and disseminate its botanical legacy with a vision for the future. The Collection Plan is, therefore, a key piece to ensure the continuity of this legacy and project it towards new generations, while offering a solid framework for research, conservation, outreach, and the enjoyment of nature.
