The Marimurtra Centenary Exhibitions

The Casa Saladrigas in Blanes is currently hosting the Marimurtra Centenary Exhibition, which is part of the actions organized by the Carl Faust Foundation to commemorate the centenary of the Garden’s creation. The exhibition – which was presented last Friday, October 18 – explains the history and evolution of the Garden, as well as its great commitment to improving biodiversity.

The Centenary Exhibition includes exhibitors with a chronology of the main events that have made it possible for Marimurtra to exist, the biography of its creator -Carl Faust-, the Foundation that bears his name and the Marimurtra publishing house. It also highlights the recognitions that the Garden has received: Cultural Property of National Interest (1995) and the Cross of Sant Jordi (2009).

It also has more informative and scientific information in which, in addition to explaining what a botanical garden is and the great scientists and gardeners who have worked at Marimurtra, the Garden’s firm commitment to improving biodiversity and achieving a healthier and more balanced environment is described. Among these actions, one very important one stands out, which is the non-use of chemicals in Marimurtra’s treatments, which has managed to create a richness and interaction between the living beings that make up it.

The exhibition on the centenary will be installed during the month of October at the Casa Saladrigas (c. del Doctor Roig i Raventós, 2, Blanes) and in the month of November at the Sala Ma Luisa García-Tornel (c. Ample, 11, Blanes).

In the Casa Saladrigas, and related to the Garden’s one hundred years, the drawings participating in the Marimurtra centenary competition will also be exhibited. The more scientific information is complemented by an exhibition of seeds from different plants.

At the presentation of the exhibition – which was attended by several patrons and staff of the Garden, as well as representatives of the municipal council – the president of the Carl Faust Foundation, Cristòfol Jordà, highlighted the brilliant moment that the Garden is currently experiencing both in the tourist and botanical fields.

For his part, the mayor of Blanes, Jordi Hernández, points out how lucky Blanes is to have the Marimurtra Botanical Garden.
