The Garden has very interesting new posters with botanical content. During the tour, visitors can take the opportunity to read them and expand their knowledge about: plant conservation, plant sexuality and plant friendship.
In addition to the information on the poster, a QR redirects to the Marimurtra website where these botanical concepts are expanded:
Plant conservation: marimurtra.cat/conservacio-vegetal
Marimurtra has been participating since 2021 in the conservation of Achillea marítima, a species native to the Mediterranean region. It is currently in danger of extinction in Catalonia. In the Garden it is being cultivated in a dune system created expressly to conserve this species.
Plant Friendship: marimurtra.cat/amistat-vegetal
There are plant species that benefit from others. For example, Tillandsia bergueri -known as air carnation- is an epiphyte plant, that is, it grows on other plants without being parasitic on them. Instead of extracting nutrients from the plant on which they are, they obtain water and nutrients from the air from a privileged apposition. The fact that it is elevated, facilitates its access to sunlight, humidity and nutrients that they find in the air and that are necessary for its development.
Plant sexuality: marimurtra.cat/sexualitat-vegetal
Phytolacca dioica or bellaombra is a giant herb native to the subtropical zone of South America. This species is dioecious, which means that it can be male or female, therefore, its flowers contain ovules. In order for it to reproduce, pollen from a flower of a male specimen must reach the ovule and fertilize it.
